Welcome to my web portfolio!
I appreciate you taking the time to learn about me and how I create animation, illustration, and storyboards.
My name is Chris Piatkowski, an animator, illustrator, & story artist living and working in Japan.
Began my art journey as a young boy living in Misawa, Japan where my father, a US Serviceman, was stationed there. From there, I was first exposed to the wonders of anime, tokusatsu, & martial arts, which had me scribbling non stop till this day.
This initial fascination would later lead to my pursuit of animation as my field of study in college, and would later prompt me to move to China to pursue my dreams of creating animation in Japan. Since moving to the Asian Pacific area back in 2014, I have had the pleasure to help produce animation, illustrations and storyboards for individuals, small businesses, & international brands.
I hope to continue to work with individuals & business, as well as to pursue my personal dream to make an original IP.
My style has always been influenced by my love anime, martial arts, and hip-hop music. Having spent time in Japan from a young age, I’ve been in awe of the style and craftsmanship that is Japanese animation. Having been exposed to the likes of Dragonball, Ruroni Kenshin, Lupin the III, it would push me to explore how this wonderful art form was made.
This would also lead to hip-hop’s connection to martial arts, through projects like the Wu-Tang Clan, Samurai Champloo, the Boondocks, Afro Samurai, and others. Also being of African American descent and my natural curiosity to find similarities in opposing ideas, it all felt very natural to me to combine it to make my own unique style.
Here are a couple selections of my favorite works I’ve worked on recently.
They combine all the aspects that I love to explore, animation, Japanese culture, martial arts, and hip hop.
